Alors que la fin de ses huit années passées à la tête des Etats-Unis approche, les photographies de Barack Obama, mettant en scène sa cool attitude, foisonnent. Focus sur l’homme qui se cache derrière tous ces clichés, Pete Souza, photographe en chef de la Maison Blanche.

Les photographies faisant ressortir le côté cool de Barack Obama ne manquent pas. Si cela est lié au charisme et à la sympathie que dégage le Président, le photographe en chef de la Maison Blanche n’est pas innocent à ce phénomène. Il prend énormément de clichés : entre 500 et 1000 par jours ! Sur les huit années, ce seront plus de 2 millions de photographies qui auront été prises. Et pour cause, Pete Souza a un accès total pour suivre Obama dans toutes ses activités présidentielles. Les meilleures photographies sont publiées sur le site officiel de la Maison Blanche et sur les réseaux sociaux, et l’ensemble est stocké aux archives présidentielles, puisqu’une loi américaine interdit la destruction de tout document, photo incluse, produit par les personnes travaillant pour l’administration présidentielle.

Pete Souza, qui a aussi été le photographe officiel de Ronald Reagan, ne se considère pas comme un ami du Président. Dans une interview à ABC, il expliquait sa mission : “Je suis là pour documenter l’Histoire et je crois qu’il (Obama, ndlr)  comprend ce rôle. […] Dans le long terme, c’est bien pour le peuple américain – de voir des images de toutes sortes de situations impliquant le président.” Au-delà de cette mission, Pete Souza reste un exceptionnel communicant travaillant pour la Maison Blanche. Ainsi, les photographies mises en avant ont plus pour objectif de mettre en valeur le Président que de documenter sa vie comme un photo-journaliste pourrait le faire.
